The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event nears, one notices an outcry for introducing of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game got ignored recently
  • Only a few logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
