19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

Victory also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
